Meeting agenda template.
An agenda is a promise about time.
Meetings without agendas aren't meetings, they're ambushes with calendars. The fix costs five minutes: a goal, topics with owners and time budgets, pre-reads sent early. Three copy-paste formats below, from the everyday version to the boardroom one.
The universal short agenda
Fits 90% of meetings. The Goal line does the heavy lifting: write it as the outcome that must exist when the meeting ends.
[Meeting name] - [Date] Goal: [What must be true when we hang up] Topics: 1. [Topic] - [Owner] - [minutes] 2. [Topic] - [Owner] - [minutes] 3. [Topic] - [Owner] - [minutes] Before the meeting: [Pre-reads or prep, if any] Notes + action items: [Link to where they'll live]
Team meeting agenda example
A standing structure for weekly team meetings. Metrics and blockers are quick and mechanical; the main topic is where the meeting earns its cost, so it rotates and gets the most time.
Team meeting agenda: [Date] Goal: [The one thing this meeting must accomplish] 1. Metrics check (5 min) [The 2-3 numbers the team steers by] 2. Blockers (10 min) [Anything stopping someone's work; solve or assign, don't discuss at length] 3. Main topic: [Topic] (20 min) Owner: [Name] Desired outcome: [Decision / alignment / input] Pre-read: [Link, sent 24h before] 4. Action items recap (5 min) [Restate every owner + due date out loud] Parking lot: [Topics raised but deferred, with owners]
Board meeting agenda example
The conventional structure for a startup board meeting. The principle that separates good board meetings from status theater: materials go out days early, and meeting time is spent discussing them, not presenting them.
Board meeting agenda: [Company], [Date] 1. Call to order and approval of previous minutes (5 min) 2. CEO update (15 min) [Highlights, lowlights, asks. Sent as pre-read; discuss, don't present] 3. Financials (15 min) [Cash, runway, variance vs plan] 4. Key topic for discussion: [Topic] (30 min) [The one strategic question that needs the board's brains] 5. Formal resolutions and approvals (10 min) [Options, hires, budgets requiring votes] 6. Closed session (10 min) 7. Adjournment Materials sent [X] days in advance. Minutes recorded by [Name].
From agenda to follow-through
The agenda sets the meeting up; the notes determine whether it mattered. Pair any of these with a meeting notes template, or let Amie take the notes: it records without a bot joining the call and produces the summary, transcript, and action items automatically, attached to the event on your calendar. Agenda in the invite, notes on the event. One place.
